Lez...Not Led at Bonnaroo

After rumors following Led Zeppelin’s reunion performance at London’s O2 Arena in December that Led would headline the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Bonnaroo promoters issued a press release confirming that the line-up for the 2008 Festival would, indeed, feature a performance by Zeppelin – Lez, that is. Several major news organizations, led by an initial story published by the Associated Press, mistakenly reported that Led Zeppelin would headline the festival, despite the fact that the Bonnaroo press release announced that headliners would include Metallica, Pearl Jam and Jack Johnson, among others. Several hours later, the world media picked up on the story and scrambled to correct what became, indeed, a fascinating and quite amusing media snafu. The upshot: Lez Zeppelin makes headlines around the world. Snafus aside, Lez Zeppelin was the first “tribute” act ever to be asked to appear at Bonnaroo. The group broke similar barriers last summer with appearances at England’s Download Festival, the Voodoo Festival in New Orleans and two major German rock festivals, Rock-Im-Park and Rock-Am-Ring. Click on the story below that appeared on MTV news and summed up the fiasco quite elegantly.
